What went wrong?
If you attempt to create a horizontal bar in a Note using hyphens it will not be formatted correctly. Instead the font size of any text immediately preceding it will be increased. And if you switch to Reading view the hyphens won’t even be displayed.
However if you add a space after the last hyphen then the horizontal bar will be displayed in Reading view. Alternatively if you add a blank line between the text and hyphens then the horizontal bar will be displayed even in Editing view.
Note that if you use underscores instead of hyphens to create the horizontal bar then none of these workarounds will be necessary to display it.
See the Horizontal Bar section in Basic formatting syntax - Obsidian Help.
- enter at least 3 hyphens after a line of text
- observe that a horizontal bar will not be displayed
A horizontal bar should be displayed whether you use hyphens or underscores. Or support for hyphens should be removed from the documentation.
